Regular maintenance is the key to your watch’s longevity, accuracy and reliability. The ShadiaN – Watchmakers team recommends periodic checks to make sure the movement and all protective elements work properly.
Every 2 years your watch should be checked by our watchmakers, with particular attention to the crown and its inner gasket. The crown is where water gets in in about 90% of cases, because it is constantly turned, pulled and exposed to dirt.
The inner gasket seals the gap between the crown and the case. Over time it naturally hardens, shrinks and loses its elasticity, and the watch is no longer water-resistant. That is why we recommend replacing this gasket every 1.5 years, especially on watches worn every day or with a screw-down crown.
We also advise against bathing or showering with your watch, especially when using shampoos, soaps, shower gels, lotions and cleaning products. These substances dry out and break down the gaskets much faster, and the case may start to whiten and lose its original look.
The oils inside the movement also age over time. When they dry out, friction increases, the wheels wear, the amplitude drops – and the repair becomes expensive and sometimes irreversible.
